Our Story

The story of Mali Safi began with a shared passion for creativity, adventure, and a desire to make a positive impact on the world. Our founders came together with a common goal: to create a line of bikinis and swimwear that is both ethically made and environmentally responsible. Our journey took a transformative turn during a trip to Kenya, where we spent time with the Maasai people. Immersed in the vibrant culture and breathtaking landscapes of Africa, the group was inspired by the bold, dynamic colors and intricate patterns that were woven into everyday life. The Maasai, known for their rich traditions and striking attire, left a profound impact on us. The simplicity, joy, and resilience of the Maasai people, who often had so little in material wealth, revealed a deeper truth: that true happiness doesn't depend on what you have, but rather how you live and connect with others. Moved by this experience, we created a swimwear brand that would not only celebrate the vibrant spirit of Africa but also give back to the community that inspired us. We wanted to create swimwear that reflected the beauty and culture of Africa, using environmentally friendly materials and ethical production practices. This commitment to sustainability and ethical fashion would set Mali Safi apart. To honor our Maasai friends and bring a piece of their culture to the world, we decided to include genuine Maasai-made carvings or bracelets in our mystery boxes, providing an avenue for these artisans to share their craft and gain economic opportunities. Through Mali Safi, we are proud to have learned the value of simplicity, the richness of cultural exchange, and the importance of giving back—creating a brand that embodies both style and substance.
